Non-Hazardous Pharmaceutical

HESI provides a convenient and economical process for collecting, transporting and destruction of non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste materials. Approximately 95% of all waste pharmaceutical materials generated by hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and other ancillary healthcare operations are identified to be non-hazardous as defined by the US EPA through the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
Traditionally a vast majority of non-hazardous waste pharmaceutical materials have been disposed of either as regular solid waste and mixed with other municipal waste materials destined for disposal in landfills, or as an alternative these unwanted pharmaceutical materials have been discarded through the sanitary sewer system. With both of these disposal methods there is growing evidence that our public water resources- ground water and surface waters can be impacted by the environmental breakdown of waste medications.
To reduce the potential environmental issues of disposing of these materials current best management practice is destruction of non-hazardous pharmaceutical materials through a medical and infectious waste incinerator that is permitted under the regulation of the EPA Clean Air Act. The incineration process breaks down the chemistry of these materials and the incineration by-products can be safely landfilled with reduced risk of environmental impact.
HESI can provide a waste pharmaceutical materials collection and disposal service that meets your individual needs. We offer different sizes of collection containers and a pick up schedule of your choosing. All services are accompanied by documentation and manifesting so you have written record of proper disposal.
